Chicago Weekend Trip!

Today was my first day back at work after a whirlwind five days split between in Chicago and Kansas City. Last Friday Tyler and I drove to Chicago for the Cards/Cubs game at Wrigley on Saturday. We spent the day walking around downtown Chicago on Friday, including Millennium Park and Michigan Avenue/The Magnificent Mile.

Ordering a Chicago-style hot dog - the best!

The Bean in Millennium Park!

My favorite building in Chicago

The Chicago River

After sightseeing all day, we had built up quite the appetite, and we just happened to walk past a Giordano's, one of Chicago's most famous deep dish pizza places. So of course we had to go!

Almost an hour and a half later... we finally got our delicious deep dish Chicago-style pizza, and it was well worth the wait!

After walking around downtown Chicago all day and eating Chicago-style hot dogs and pizza , we were starting to fall in love with the city. Seriously, if it weren't for the Cubs and my love for all things St. Louis, I would move to Chicago in a heartbeat. It's always been one of my favorite cities in the U.S. to visit, and I've been several times (twice in middle school, once in high school and once in college). But never to a Cards/Cubs game at Wrigley! But that would change after this trip!

The next day, we woke up and walked two blocks over to the Willis (Sears) Tower. I loved the location of our hotel, Club Quarters. It's basically a hotel made for business travelers. It was very small but convenient. No specialties or amenities, just the basics, which is all we needed. Plus it was right in the middle of downtown Chicago (and it wasn't ridiculously expensive)! Can't get much better than that.

We were in and out of the Sears Tower in just over an hour, so when we were done we hopped in a cab to the north side of town to Wrigleyville!

And what an experience Wrigleyville was! I'm totally jealous that the area outside of Busch Stadium doesn't have the same feel and excitement as Wrigley does.

Of course we had to get another Chicago dog once we got inside, and we found out we had pretty decent seats... but the one thing we weren't prepared for was the weather. And boy, was it frigid! After five innings I couldn't feel my hands or feet, and we both decided to go inside the park for warmth (and a beer). Unfortunately, the Cards were losing pretty badly by this point anyway, so that wasn't convincing enough for us to hang around. Even though it was cold and the Cards loss shamelessly to the Cubs, we still had a great time and both decided it was something we want to do every year (but maybe in May or July rather than September)!

  1. Chi-town is my future home. I have a slight infactuation with public transit, and Chicago has the best. Giordanos stuffed pizza is the best and I am jealous! And I assume you refuse to call it "Willis Tower?" I get to go back for my 5th visit in December, can not wait for some Giordanos! (And Jamba Juice.)Glad you had a blast!

  2. They really do have great public transit and I'm craving some Giordano's now, wish we had one in St. Louis! And yes I think Willis Tower sounds silly... it just doesn't fit haha. Why are you going in December? It's going to be sooo cold!!! Well have fun anyway!
